The Guild network of European research-intensive universities, of which Université Paris Cité is a member, is growing with the addition of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, located in Barcelona. A young European university, very active and promising in terms of research. UPF represents the first Spanish university to join the network. Université Paris Cité is delighted to welcome it among its members.
Universitat Pompeu Fabra
Named after Pompeu Fabra i Poch (1868 -1948), an engineer and grammarian who consolidated and systematized the Catalan language, Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) was created in 1990 with the ambition of strengthening academic excellence and contributing to the development of society.
Still at the core of its mission today, these objectives guide UPF’s innovative teaching model, which serves more than 12,000 students, while strengthening its commitment to meeting global challenges through the institution’s multidisciplinary expertise. In just three decades since its creation, UPF has rapidly earned a distinguished position among the best universities in Europe and the world.
Ranked as the 10th youngest university in the world by the Times Higher Education Global Rankings (2021) and ranked as the top university on the Iberian Peninsula, UPF has attracted the attention of Guild members for the excellence of its research and its ability to attract European funding, particularly in the field of cutting-edge research. UPF is the Spanish institution that has succeeded in obtaining the most funding from the European Research Council (ERC) since 2014. It is thus quite naturally that the UPF joined the Guild as its 21st member on January 5, 2021.
Université Paris Cité and Pompeu Fabra University, a partnership since 2019
Three Erasmus+ agreements were signed in 2019 between Université Paris Cité and Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). These three agreements mainly cover student mobility (in Humanities, Medicine and History).
As a consequence of the global pandemic, the mobilities planned for 2019/2020 were maintained, however they took place in a hybrid format. For the past three years, one student from Université Paris Cité and six students from UPF have benefited from this partnership.
Beyond the framework of these three agreements, cooperation in research is also strengthening through an international co-supervision of thesis in Language Sciences coordinated and supervised jointly by the two institutions. In addition, two students from Université Paris Cité completed their internship at UPF in 2019/2020.
