Writing an effective application: CV and cover letter (for non-academic sector)
Summary
Your resume and cover letter are the first tools of communication in the recruitment process. Preparing them is essential to creating a compelling application.
This workshop provides keys to understanding recruiters’ expectations and the fundamentals of building an effective resume and cover letter tailored to the job offer you are targeting, in either the public or private sector.
Program
1 – Building group dynamics and a shared understanding of objectives
2 -The expectations and practices of recruiters in the private sector and in the public sector
- Discover recruiters’ expectations of PhD holders
- Understand their methods for finding candidates and recruiting them
- The role of the resume and cover letter in the recruitment process.
3 – Analyze a job offer and compare it with your career goals
Exercise: Put yourself in the shoes of a recruiter, analyze a job offer and identify the desired profile.
- Analyze the desired profile and consider how it fits with your career plans and values
- Highlighting your doctoral experience and skills in line with the profile sought
4 – Building a convincing application
- Building an effective CV: basic rules and specific requirements for the private sector, and the public sector
Exercise: Cross-reading of CVs in subgroups. Evaluation. Areas for improvement.
