The Department of English and American Studies, in collaboration with a consortium of partners, has established an integrated master’s program in English and American Studies (Joint Degree in English and American Studies). This program includes a mandatory one-semester study abroad period during the M2S3 semester at one of the partner universities.

The consortium for the Integrated Master’s Program in English and American Studies (Joint Degree in English and American Studies) include these partners

  • Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona / Spain
  • Université Paris Cité, Paris / France
  • University of Pécs / Hungary
  • Ca’ Foscari University, Venice / Italy
  • Jagiellonian University of Kraków / Poland
  • The City College of New York / USA

Procedure for Studying Abroad (for students already selected and currently in their first year of the Master’s program at Université Paris Cité)

The study abroad application must be prepared during the second semester of the first year of the Master’s program for a study abroad period during the third semester of the second year.

Moveon Application for Université Paris Cité

JDEAS students must complete an online application on the Moveon portal of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. Once your application has been approved by Paris Cité, you will be officially nominated to your host university.
The preliminary interview with Laurence Cros is not required since you have already been selected for your exchange university.

For City College of New York, follow the Bilateral Agreements procedure.
Application period opens = November 1
Application deadline = November 30
Program selection = bilateral agreement
Field of study: select ANGL – American Studies
You must apply only to City College of New York

For European partners, follow the Erasmus procedure
Application period opens = February 1
Application deadline = February 15
Program selection = Integrated Program
Field of study: Select ANGL – English-Language Literature
You must apply only to the host university for which you have already been selected
Fill out all sections and upload the required documents, including the study agreement.

How to Fill Out the Learning agreement (contrat d’études)

This is the list of courses you will take at your host university. The learning agreement must be signed by the UFR’s academic advisor (Laurence CROS, laurence.cros@u-pariscite.fr) before it is submitted to Moveon.

City College of New York
Choose 3 graduate-level courses, either in the MA in English Literature or in the MA in Language and Literacy (depending on your specialization)

European Universities
You must complete the equivalent of 30 ECTS credits at the Master’s level in English Studies at your host university in Europe, preferably in your area of specialization (literature, linguistics, history and civilization, art and visual culture)

Note: Please be aware that this contract is for reference only. It will almost always be modified once you arrive on campus, when you create your class schedule. Whenever you wish to change your classes, you must check with me to ensure the changes are acceptable, then update your study contract and send it to me for signature. Please keep an electronic copy on your computer for updates. Important: If you change your courses, do not use the “Modifications” page; instead, redo the entire contract.

Application for the Host University

Once your host university has received your nomination, they will contact you to complete another application.
Each university has its own application, timeline, and requirements.

How do I apply for a Paris Cité mobility grant?

Depending on the destination and the student’s financial and social situation, it is possible to apply for a grant. This provides some financial assistance but does not cover all expenses.
You can apply for a scholarship on the Moveon portal after completing the Moveon application for the integrated program. You will need to upload the following documents:

  • the most recent tax assessment notice for the tax household to which you belong, available as of the date you submit your application.
  • If you are part of your parents’ tax household: a copy of the family register showing all pages listing the members of the tax household
  • a bank account statement in your name (from a bank branch located in France) showing your address
  • the notification of a need-based scholarship for eligible students
