Circle U. at UPCité
Université Paris Cité is a member of the Circle U. European alliance. Circle U. brings together 9 European universities with the same aim: to contribute to the advent of more sustainable, more democratic and healthier societies. The alliance develops numerous opportunities to enable its 470,000 students and 64,000 staff and academics to cooperate across disciplines, sectors and national borders. As part of its commitment to engaging in dialogue with society, Circle U. also brings together a number of associate partners representing local authorities, businesses and civil society organisations. Their aim? To work together to create activities around the alliance’s key themes in response to the major challenges facing our society.
Circle U. partner universities: Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in Germany, King’s College London in the United Kingdom, Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium, University of Belgrade in Serbia, University of Oslo in Norway, Aarhus University in Denmark, University of Pisa in Italy, University of Vienna in Austria, Université Paris Cité in France.
A response to the major challenges facing our society
In response to the many challenges facing our societies, the European alliance Circle U. is organised around hubs and platforms that deliver collective, long-term solutions to transform higher education and research in Europe. These hubs and platforms form the backbone of Circle U. and, through the ongoing involvement of academic chairs, enable the development of a wide range of programmes and activities.
This network of academic chairs designs and launches innovative, interdisciplinary learning initiatives, which are then published in the Circle U. course catalogue — the alliance’s open campus.
The Global Health Hub led by UPCité
The Global Health Hub aims to develop strategies to deliver the best possible healthcare for all in a context of growing global and local inequalities. Université Paris Cité, drawing on its Planetary Health commitment and strong expertise in health, coordinates this hub and the activities developed within it. Each year, it hosts the Global Health Summer School, one of the flagship programmes of the Circle U. alliance.

The Global Health Chair position is currently open for recruitment.
The Climate Hub
The Climate Hub aims to address the challenges posed by climate change, whose impacts we can observe on a daily basis. It develops a range of teaching modules and organises awareness-raising events. Each year, for example, the entire Circle U. community is invited to Climate Day, where participants can attend lectures, visit laboratories, and explore other sites related to this theme.
At Université Paris Cité, an online exhibition has also been organised, along with an awareness-raising video highlighting the importance of sorting residual waste.

The Democracy Hub
The main mission of Circle U.’s democracy division is to strengthen civic engagement and reinforce the values of democracy that recent conflicts have called into question at the very borders of Europe. Paris Cité University participates in the summer school organised each year on this theme and organises awareness-raising events on its campuses.

The IA Hub
The artificial intelligence cluster was launched most recently in response to issues related to the development and use of artificial intelligence. It aims to create a framework for the sustainable, safe and ethical everyday use of these new tools. Paris Cité University is involved in organising the school dedicated to this subject and will hold an event for teachers on AI in higher education.

Multilingualism, Interculturality & Language Lab - CU.mil
In an increasingly globalised world, universities have a key role to play in developing linguistic and intercultural skills, both among students and staff. It is in response to this challenge that the Multilingualism and Interculturality (CU.mil) platform was launched within Circle U..
Its aim is to offer courses, resources and activities that enable the entire community to develop the intercultural skills that have become essential today.
In particular, it has produced a guide, the “language compass”, designed to support Circle U. member universities in implementing multilingualism within their activities.
As part of this platform, Paris Cité University is leading the CU.Connect project, a tandem language learning platform that should be launched soon!

Teaching Innovation Lab - CU.til
The CU.til platform aims to support the development of new course formats that will give students in the alliance the keys to tackling major societal challenges. It also offers training courses for university staff. On the initiative of its academic chair, Paris Cité University is leading a project funded by the Circle U seed fund on the referencing of alliance universities’ policies on the use of AI.

The InCU.bator
In addition to training, it is essential to give students the confidence they need to be proactive and take on new projects. Circle U.’s inCUbator enables them to develop innovative entrepreneurial projects by providing them with an educational framework, resources and a network of partners to transform their ideas into concrete initiatives.
The UPCité Chair: currently recruiting.
Circle U.: a tool for transforming Paris Cité University
The European Circle U. alliance is a real lever for transformation at Paris Cité University and is fully in line with the institution’s internationalisation strategy. It both strengthens European cooperation and drives the development of internationalised student pathways thanks to its hybrid modules and jointly developed, European-recognised courses offered on its open campus.
Université Paris Cité actively supports the involvement of its teaching teams in these projects, notably through the bottom-up call for projects and PACIFORM, the Programme for Supporting the Internationalisation of Training Courses, and a dedicated team responsible for supporting, connecting and assisting the university’s teams in these efforts.
By combining internationalisation, digital technology and educational innovation, Circle U. is helping to prepare Université Paris Cité for the profound changes taking place in higher education, while strengthening its appeal, international influence and capacity for innovation.
