Possible topics are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the evolution of NLP systems,<\/li>\n<li>common problems with NLP data (presence of biases, data contamination, etc.) and some of the challenges of system evaluation,<\/li>\n<li>the strengths and weaknesses of large language models,<\/li>\n<li>the explainability of NLP systems,<\/li>\n<li>machine-learning beyond standard supervised learning in NLP (self-learning, reinforcement learning, unsupervised learning),<\/li>\n<li>good practices for hyper-parameter search and model regularisation,<\/li>\n<li>challenges and methods in low-resource settings (prototypical networks, data augmentation, etc.),<\/li>\n<li>pragmatics and common-sense reasoning,<\/li>\n<li>syntactic parsing and discourse analysis,<\/li>\n<li>natural language generation,<\/li>\n<li>the contributions of NLP tools to linguistics, including psycho-linguistics, language emergence and the link between distributional semantics and structuralism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Prerequisites<\/h4>\n<p>Knowledge in Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning.<\/p>\n<h4>Learning outcomes<\/h4>\n<p>On successful completion of this course, students should:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>have a basic understanding of the historical evolution of Natural Language Processing,<\/li>\n<li>understand the main challenges in Natural Language Processing today,<\/li>\n<li>be able to critically read and present research articles on these topics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Basic information Credits: 3 Format: 2 hours weekly 2026-2027 instructors: Timoth\u00e9e Bernard 2026-2027 schedule: Tuesdays, 16:00-18:00, room 309 Moodle page Description This course will present some of the current trends in Natural Language Processing (NLP).
