When we think about an international experience during our studies, we often imagine a semester abroad, a full suitcase, new habits to adopt… and sometimes, we give up on the idea before even taking an interest in it. That is exactly how virtual mobility, especially through the Circle U. Open Campus, is completely a game-changer. Mailys is a Master student in Environmental Science and Engineering at Université Paris Cité and she will will share her experience of virtual mobility. Virtual mobility makes it possible to offer a different, yet enriching, international experience to more students.
An international experience accessible to everyone
With virtual mobility, students can access courses offered by recognized European universities while staying enrolled at their home university. It is a practical way to discover different teaching methods, collaborate with students from various countries, and improve our understanding of the European academic world. Basically, it is like having Europe just one click away. It is an opportunity to enjoy an international experience without necessarily having to leave for several months abroad. And that is far from trivial.
A human experience, even from a distance
Beyond the practical aspect, there is also the human experience. We might think that studying remotely means losing the social side of things, but in reality, it is quite the opposite. Through Circle U. Open Campus, students work with peers from all over Europe: Paris, Oslo, Belgrade, and many more. They exchange ideas, build projects together, and debate. It is also an opportunity to compare your working methods with those of students who may have completely different academic backgrounds. We quickly realise that everyone approaches problems differently, and this pushes you to adapt. It is very concrete, highly educational, and closely reflects what awaits us in the professional world, where teams are increasingly international and often work remotely.
An experience that fits into your daily life
Another major advantage is flexibility. Many students already balance studies, part-time jobs, and sometimes personal commitments. Spending six months abroad is not always possible. With Circle U., students can follow a module alongside their main degree program without having to put everything else on hold. It truly becomes an added value to your academic journey without completely disrupting your routine. And honestly, having an international experience on your CV without even leaving your university is a real advantage.
Key skills for today’s world
Finally, this type of mobility helps develop skills that are often underestimated at first. Working remotely requires autonomy, organization, and a solid command of digital tools. Students also learn to communicate clearly, often in
English, and adapt to different academic cultures. You don’t only improve in your chosen field of study. You also become much more efficient in the way you work and communicate with others.
