Important information
Duration of the mobility period
SMARTS-UP Graduate Schools international mobility grants are awarded for internships or fieldwork abroad lasting between 1 and 6 months and ending no later than 31 August 2027. Any mobility period lasting less than one month, calculated from the start date to the corresponding end date, is not eligible for SMARTS-UP Graduate Schools international mobility grants.
For mobility periods exceeding six months, a grant covering a maximum of six monthly instalments may be awarded.
Location of the mobility period
Internships and fieldwork must take place abroad, outside France. The French overseas departments and regions (DROM) and overseas collectivities (COM) are part of French territory. Internships and fieldwork carried out in these territories are therefore not eligible for SMARTS-UP Graduate Schools mobility grants.
The French overseas departments and regions and overseas collectivities (DROM-COM) include Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Réunion, Mayotte, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Martin, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, French Polynesia, and Wallis and Futuna.
If the internship or fieldwork includes a period of remote work or a period spent undertaking the internship or fieldwork in France, this period will not be taken into account when calculating the international mobility grant.
High-risk areas: Mobility periods to areas classified as “strongly discouraged” (formellement déconseillées) or “discouraged unless there is an imperative reason” (déconseillées sauf raison impérative) by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs are not eligible for funding. Please refer to the Travel Advice section of the Ministry’s website.
Grant calculation and payment
The international mobility grant is paid exclusively for the period corresponding to the actual internship dates stated in the internship agreement. The amount will be adjusted according to the arrival and attendance certificates issued by the host institution.
Combining grants: SMARTS-UP Graduate Schools mobility grants cannot be combined with any other international mobility grant awarded by Université Paris Cité.
The first payment, corresponding to 80% of the total grant, will be made upon arrival. The remaining amount will be paid at the end of the mobility period. No payment can be made before the start of the mobility period.
